Do you see what's going on? In each instance, in subtle ways, scripture is attacked. And each time, the purpose is a "good" one. We want to feed people, right? We don't want to take the Book literally anytime it's only meant figuratively, right? And who wants to make people stumble when they're coming to Christ?
I'll tell you. There is a kind of food that sustains more than steak and potatoes. And why not give them both kinds of food, the kind that satisfies temporary hunger and eternal hunger?
While taking a passage out of context is bad, it's even worse to take it out of the Bible entirely! God is the great Communicator and we can easily tell when it's history and when it's mystery. Sometimes "smart" people can miss the whole point.
And Jesus came in the flesh, died on the cross and rose from the dead in order to free us from our SIN. This is the gospel. Absolutely: use effective language, but be very sure to use the truth while you're doing it.
